We adopted Tay at the end of december when she was 8 weeks old.

Three quarter Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and one quarter poodle.

Despite weighing 2.91 kg, she was the largest of the lot.

Her mix has left her quite odd coloured.

Right paw white with pink nails.

Left paw darker with black nails.

And the poor girl looks like she's donned a permanent tuxedo

with her fuzzy white patch.

Every passerby calls her a he.

The first time i started writing in cyberspace was in 2004.

At that stage, I was an angsty teenager who thought that if nobody would listen to me, then I would release myself in what I then thought were cleverly stringed words and ideas that were a tangent to society's norm.

As time progressed, tangential ideas morphed into social reports. Pictures of going to small group events, shoutouts to social circles (my own most of the time) and vanity shots to satisfy the ridiculous notion of being physically socially acceptable.

Occasionally a writing sanctuary for emotional events or developing artsy skills in moments ~~of boredom~~ devoid of words, the space fills up with bits of smiley nonsense.

Then came the discovery of emoticons and asterisk actions to inject a little humour into lifeless words.

7 years on, a week from now, to the date this blog was revived, my passion for writing remains but the crave for display is now lost. No longer the forlorn teenager, time demands a change. A door stands before me and my baggage is too bulky to pass.

I feel the need to strip away and part of what will be left behind is this space. Maybe it will be recollected some day but more likely would be its demotion into abandonment. Space is not to be wasted. If in time, my fingers indefinitely loses their itch to express, then a kind delete button will find its way to erase my 7 year journey.

I finish what I start

Sometimes, all a girl needs is a good old fashioned telenovela. Nothing compares to being kept on the edge of continuous suspense and desire for the two main characters to JUST FINALLY give in to what they really want - a simple hug, a caress of the cheek, the cradling of the nape, the stroke of the hair until it leads to the climax of the show - the Kiss. And then the show ends.

the downside- it takes forever and ever and the next life time before it ends.

I've been on a marathon of this show Kahit Isang Saglit - a 2008 Philipines-Malaysia production starring

The very appealing Jericho Rosales

and The innocently sultry Carmen Soo.

It has been three very long days and I have watched 48 episodes WITHOUT SUBTITLES where 80 percent of the show is in Tagalog. T.T But who needs words when every intonation and expression is blatantly ~~cliche~~ clear on the message sent across. I know who the evil kennievel is, who the wrongly judged are, who the jealously pining love interests are and who the schemer behind things is.

But I think it would be very nice to know what the punch lines were - or what sweet love words the main male character is conveying to his forbidden love. O well, win some lose some loathesome.

My biggest pet peeve - sigh, the wailing weak female.*tearshairsout* I've had enough of "sorry bakit sorry bakit sorry bakit I did it for you!" AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T BLARDY KISSED YET!

As I was saying, 48 episodes into this series and the smooches are nowhere to be found. Thoroughly annoyed by the perfect almost moments and the .. aIYAK gotta go, bye, cannot exchange saliva with you, toodles.

Doubled sigh, another 17 episodes to go. I'm not being a perv and just wanting to see the kiss (which would be a nice transformation and progress in the standard of Malaysian acting btw), but I started this show and I need to finish it, to know how the evil kenievel is going to be knocked off his pedestal, to know if revenge was avenged, to see how happily ever after reveals itself. Curse my need to fill in the blardy gap,*wavesfist*

When the weekend was unexpectedly gorgeous, it was decided that it would not be wasted indoors. Easy as it was to make that decision, trying to get the surgeon glued to his computer game to move almost made me burst an artery. After nagging and researching, we finally left at 1pm.

It was a promising start when within the first thirty minutes of the walk saw four horses. Two of them whispering into each other's ear. Oh, promises of things to come =)

The third, a white one was amusingly a curious fella. She walked up to us, sniffed at our hands and trailed along when we moved. The fourth horse who was standing there earlier was nudged out of the way when we paid him attention. It was so endearing when it wanted so much attention, I was immediately reminded me of a cocker spaniel.

Somehow, we got lost during the walk. The path led further away rather than looping around to our destination. We walked off trail to head back and in my pessimistic mind was survival skills - obtain clean water from the river and attempting to survive on what means we had.

Six hours of continuous walking on uneven terrain, mostly on an incline slowed the pace. Food had to be rationed to ensure sufficient energy. Our last peanutbutter and chocolate sandwich divided three ways. The capacity of my bladder was tested. Semi filled at the start of the journey and being too hygienic to dig a hole in the ground was a lethal combination.

Eventually we followed downstream and finally found the lake we started off from just as the sun began to set behind the munros. The moment my eyes saw it, I burst into an off pitch Maria of 'HALLELUJAH". I tell no lie.

*sniffle*

We got home at midnight!

Despite all that physical activity, I could not sleep my morning away. Le Soleil appealed to my circadian rhythm, prying my eyes open and accompanied by what felt like a munching turtle in my right calf. This old woman will not succumb to pain! Thus, I walked to church, as I always do on my Sunday mornings off. I am so glad I did. More four legged furry friends to make my day.

And then we stumbled along this grandma with 6 of her dogs. She started naming each of them, telling us their front legs were lame and she could not sell them, so she kept them all instead. They did not like us. Started barking the moment we got near.

That concludes the weekend that was. The best of both worlds.

I have annoying IELTS to sit for next weekend and I have not written an essay since college days. My written lingo has gone kaput as have my spelling. Sigh. Need to ensure perfect grammar =(

Every ward has a Bloods Folder. It is a basic ring file that holds sheets of paper with a small standard of deviation of tables on it. Each sheet is allocated a patient on the ward.

Day by day, the local resident of the ward a.k.a junior doctors fill in these sheets with results from blood tests done on each patient. Year by year, these folders go through their share of sweaty palms and spittle as they join in the ward rounds and reveal the trends of blood tests be it improving/static or worsening

Until one day, when the back bone of the folder disintegrates from the continuous handling, and the combined sweat and spittle stain its body, the folder having served its purpose opens for the last time and breaks apart.

I have not known this folder for long, neither do I know its life span. However, having cradled it and propped in between the forearm and the waist, a special bond grew and made me realise this folder needed to be properly bade farewell.

I turned it over, exposing its vulnerable white inert and produced the following... ... ...

Non-surprisingly, I'm a little embarrassed. Someone pointed out a "Most photogenic couple" contest with a grand prize of a free 4D3N trip to Hong Kong on facebook. I thought to myself, no harm taking part. I want a free holiday! As a result, puvesh and I have now joined the cheesy ranks amongst the many other sweet faced/young faced couples.

IF in your opinion there is no embarrassing element to joining a contest with a faux subtly of PLEASE VOTE ME (why do i keep spelling embarrass with ONE r?) then I should elaborate further- I submitted a silhouette photo!... for the most photogenic couple =.= " Before the word blonde airhead comes to mind, let me speak in my defence. I do not have thick enough skin to put my face out so publicly for strangers to judge and say - yeerrr, foto-GE-nik meh?

Instead, despite how beautiful/artistic/wah I think the picture is (the only true reason why it's so WAH is because my face cannot be seen!) my embarrassment now lies in submitting a photo that is off tangent to the theme. so very the stoopid.
I take comfort in the fact that they cannot see who the stoopid person is behind that entry.

Ever since I have heard tales of this little fishing village and all its beautiful little glory, I have been itching to go. So this weekend past, we snoozed the alarm 3 times before finally making a late jumpstart to head towards the open sea.

Destination accomplished.
Chyelatte and I slept all the way throughout the windy road and the scenery.

Came across death and its undertaker

but the living was undoubtedly more attractive.

though personally not a fan of these whiskers,

it was entertaining to tease it with faux mews and watch

it slink up to brush its coat on anything standing still.

I, however, still favour man's best and only friend,

even though he steals ice creams.

especially yappy ones the size of my foot.

Stepping aside the furry four legged, we strolled along the coastal route

So I left.

Before I did, I tried everything to prepare for April.
There was going to be a monstrosity of camwhoring to do and I did not want to sift through photos only to feel "darn it, WHY SO FAT!"

I tried stretching

I tried balancing

Luckily I could still touch my toes

I tried weight lifting
but found too much weight to lift

At some point, I tried clenching anything *false hopes totone*!
yet only the jaw muscles worked best

bleargh~

In the end, the best and most consistent workout that i ever achieved
was the one that had my tush flat on a cushion.

So obviously,how to not lose weight. I had to fall back on age-old tricks - camera angles... to davidcopperfield myself (and maybe you) into believing in the 2D thinner version =)

Finally, the time came. With a skip, a hop, a bus ride and two flights, the fatso returns into the humidity called home. Sadly, the Airasia flight was terribly full. For the first time, my posture had to remain seated for the entire journey. Guess the tush exercise was in use after all.

Enough about my crazy self-absorption. I WAS HOME! HOME ! HOME! the biggest thing i looked forward to. And who was there to greet me....

*sigh*

For the first time in my working life, the entitled paid leave actually holds true to its name. Between the last week of March and the entire month of April, i've been a siamese kitten with tweety bird between its teeth. A full month's salary for only 4 days of work in 6 weeks. *joy*

But that was not all. The 5 weeks and 3 days was properly allocated to the Legion of Shortstumpyfingers.

When theindianboy and I began our relationship across the equator, we started up a personal blog whereby its viewers will consist and remain of only two.

It was a private little rent free island where public induced nausea in the form of latin alphabets could be freely scattered without shame, pictures shared without any judgmental disgust.

Blogging has been a part of my life for the past 8 years so updating this private blog was not a problem. Theindianboy has yet to get used to it though.

Currently, the last post stands at December 2010 ... and that was mine. harrumph! I am already quite contented with this blog, so I think the other should be his little project (he started it... i think).

A 72 year old man who was in hospital due to worsening episodes of confusion had a funny turn. He was unrousable for 5 minutes but had a good going pulse and was breathing spontaneously.

Eventually, he began to stir. With eyes closed, incoherent words murmured behind his heavy tongue. His limbs moved restlessly, he would not stay still, fidgeting about his buttons or anything he could get his hands on. We called out his name, waiting for his response, but he continued to mumble and fidget.

Just like in every other circumstance, my role was to conduct a full examination. Can I pinpoint a cause to his sudden episode?

The moment my hands were laid upon his skin, he flinched. Ooh, co-old the first words we finally understood.

I apologized but before I could continue with my examination, he clasped my cold hand in his, brought it to his lips ...

... and kissed it. Then he blew on it, the way a gentleman does to lady's cold hand. All the while eyes shut as he slipped in and out of semi consciousness.

Medicine for the elderly is not my cup of tea, but it amazes me how well mannered these granddads (mostly) and grandmums are, despite being unwell, or mentally out of state.

They're so cute, I want to bring them home.

His would be the third pair of lips that has touched the back of my hand and the only one that did not make me flutter. =/

The joys of spending is knowing that you worked hard for each dollar spent. I have always thought myself to be cautious in money matters, i buy things that are necessary and useful (very useful) and all these big brands, luxury designer goods were never a priority. (i say sensible, some say Kedekut?)

I am no fashionista, if the last statement has not already clarified that. I think the classic Chanel bag looks like an overpriced uncomfortable aunty's pillow and the brown printed bags of Louis Vuitton look really... old. So no, these overpriced expensive goods are not my cup of tea, especially if they're not on discount.

Then why is it there an insatiable hunger amongst many (both the ovaries kind and the testes kind) to own any one of these items. Bragging rights? An incline amongst classes? The satisfying look of (curious) envy of an outsider? or Just the need to keep up with the ever changing trends? Perhaps, maybe perhaps its because there is actual value in quality behind these items?

I don't know. It puzzles me.
What perplexes me even more?

Despite the fact that I do not care about designer accessories, i cannot for the life of me explain the ridiculous excitement behind my just-about-ownership of ... the names below????? (not entirely luxury, but recognisable higher-end-yet-affordable names nonetheless)

or my current stalking craze of a 600 pound bag ( RM3000) of a very established designer brand. SIX HUNDRED POUNDS? am i crazy? I could live of 600 pounds for just over TWO months. Not only did I stalk it, I even transferred money across bank accounts to try to accommodate this new ?asset/?liability.

thankfully, i did not act on impulse and consulted the ever-wise-and-fellow-sensible housemate of mine before clicking CHECKOUT. "It's not even leather. You're just paying for the name"

based from a myth in its originating country, Portugal.

In Portugal you see this little birdies every where, known as the Barcelos Cockerel.

A 13th century legend tells the story of a pilgrim who on his way to Santiago de Compostela stopped in the small town of Barcelos, in Portugal. Here he was wrongly accused of theft, for which the penalty was death by hanging. The pilgrim only had his faith to call upon and he appealed to Our Lady and St James, the patron Saint for Protection, that justice be done. The pilgrim found the Judge that was to decide his faith just as the Judge was about to start eating a roast cockerel for this dinner and the pilgrim pleaded, “ If I am innocent, may that cockerel get up and crow!” The cockerel rose up immediately and crowed loudly. From that moment on the cockerel has become a symbol of Portugal and brightly coloured ceramic cockerels can be found all over the country.

So Nando's is definitely more than just chicken. It represents its originating country.
Practically every restaurant in Portugal sells grilled anything. We even tasted the original Piri-Piri Grilled chicken.

Verdict: erm, taste like chicken. I prefer the commercialised version with all its tangible variety of spicy sauces.

Some called it crazy, whereas I just think it is my poor organising skills. I went to work on a Saturday to settle an errand/job i could not complete the day before. It was my weekend off but it was just for an hour. Anyway, this is not the point of this entry.

When I went in, a little figure with glorious curls sat in the doctor's work corner. I stopped halfway in my tracks the moment her bambi eyes caught me, a cookie just about making its way into her mouth. Slow cautious nibbling ensued as her saucer eyes tracked my slowed movement towards that corner.

She stared at me like a deer caught in headlights, but would not respond to any of my prompting. Imagine embarrassing baby language "where's mummy!?" It turned out that mummy did not bring her in. It was daddy, and daddy was my boss - the consultant. (luckily, a nice one, so i was not too embarrassed about harassing his little girl).

Small incidences like these warm my heart. Today, it got me thinking of days when my poppa brought me to work. I remember being perched at the nurses reception with a large timestable book, trying to memorise the multiplications of 9 before discovering the finger trick that uses less brain power.

With the past in hand, my mind projected into the future. Perhaps one day, when theindianboy and I are no longer across the equator from each other, and when we have a brood of our own, he will be that daddy who brings the little punjlet(s) to work. Setting them/him/her in a corner, while he attends to his patients. I know I am getting ahead of myself, but my brain is going into overdrive, wondering if they will have his curly mop and almond shaped eyes. Will they be as brown as he is or as pale as I am? will they be cuddly and chubby, or petite and delicate?

But i'm all warm and fuzzy and melting with surges of joy at the imagination of playing house some day in the near/distant future.
i'm ignoring the bit where the both of us are trying to juggle work, finances and punjlet(s) all at once.

he said he was going to be there.
i said i will make plans in order to see him there.

to cut things short, in his daze of being the doting half assumes that the plans i was making were during the time that we were suppose to rendezvous and did not show up.

so yes, theindianboy stood me up... ONLINE.

and i had every reason to be upset.
albeit the fact that we were making plans when his brain was half cup empty.

getting annoyed...Easy... staying annoyed would have been until he comes up with a bunch of cleverly taken photos he's been secretly snapping during our 3 year cyber chats on skype...some thing like this

One anaesthetist thinks that I should be held responsible for not attending to a patient who had come in the night before his surgery. She says it was my fault that this patient (who was placed in a separate department's ward one floor away the moment he arrived) had not had his blood levels checked resulting a 45 minute delay in surgery. She calls up again and berates over the phone that due to my lack of responsibility of seeing to this man before his surgery and performing an ECG (heart tracing) that the surgery is further delayed and everybody in theatre will now have to stay back as they wait for a heart tracing to be done. Everybody had to stay later than they should and the fault is laid on me.

A patient had a heart problem which was left undiagnosed for years. I saw her in a clinic before her surgery, picked up the heart abnormality and made all the arrangements to make a thorough assessment. Her surgery has been cancelled because of me. The anaesthetist (a different one) said I saved her life. It was possible that she would not have survived had she undergone general anaesthesia for her operation.

A poor old woman had a significantly distended abdomen. It was filled with bodily fluids that accumulated in her tummy area. Under the guidance of a senior house officer, I performed paracentesis (placing a drain in a patient's tummy to remove the fluid). The consultant on the ward round asked who performed the paracentesis and my registrar very kindly told her it was me, with the help of a senior doctor of course. The consultant turns to me and says, Now THIS is QUALITY.

The patients I see said that if they could, they would give recommendations for the measly things I have done for them.

I am so relieved I do not feel so crap anymore. Sometimes it really takes more than tape just to mend one broken wing.

On the other hand, I'm a junior doctor. A baby doctor in fact. It takes a whole lot of wrong before I am right, and everybody needs to start somewhere.

i apologize if more and more entries are beginning to be more medically inclined. i try not to talk to much about the heart behind my stethoscope, but sometimes i can't help it =) will try to be less impartial in the future

i live across the street from the hospital and it is very convenient.

This morning, as I was waiting for traffic to clear to cross the road, I see a consultant Anaesthetist who once conducted a lesson on CPR (not physically on ME of course) and management of an emergency situation walking along that street towards the hospital.

He is in my opinion (wigglyjigglymeeyebrows) good looking and my friend and I have agreed that he has quite the attractive ~~body~~ personality for someone his age. Plus... he's a consultant AND an anaesthetist. that automatically adds KENGCHOW to the equation!

So, this consultant is walking along the sidewalk and he spots me across the road too.

He smiles.

I smile back friendly because that's what we do in the UK. We smile.

The fellow reading out the card was unsure of the proper pronunciation of the word, so I said it out - 'F'EH-szun. Very immediately, someone else in the group corrected me with 'P'EH-szun.

When I experienced working for the first time, it was at a food and beverage outlet and I would be the person who you would not want to discretely add spittle in your food. I never did mind you although I have been very tempted to at times. They were lucky ethics saved their oblivious torture. That is beside the point. During the first week, a customer made me realise something.

She asked me if I were new at this job, and it was posed so randomly it surprised me. Was it because i was fumbly? or was it my limited encyclopaedia of the menu that was so evident?

And that's when the obvious only became known to me.

She said it was because I was smiling.

By the end of the working stint, i knew i stopped. It wasn't just miserable, it was exhausting and the pay was pitiful. On the other hand, I gained insight to being the other person across the kitchen table. How difficult it can be sometimes.

Anyway, I do not want to be lengthy. At this present moment, I am still glowing, but i wonder, when i will stop.

in my 1 week anniversary of being an employee are good evenings and some not so good nights. it is weird that i have yet to have a proper 9 to 5 slot, but it facillitates my cyber relationship with theindianboy and the animals in the seputih zoo.

i digress.

tonight, a certain point between seeing an 82 year old scottish man who spoke bahasa to me and juggling little bits of reminders in my head brought me to an embarassingly emotional point. i am happy. i love what i am doing now. i love the patient contact (the non IVDU ones), i love using what little i know in my patient care, i love being right about (notsogenius) diagnoses.

In a twisted point of view, i also quite like (not love) the somewhat similar feeling of a pressured saleswoman during extra discount days - meeting demanding customers whom each think they deserve all the attention. ish divas~ still, all in all, even with the bad moments, i cannot believe the job satisfaction i am getting out of this. it's ridiculous.

hmmm.

ask me again in 2 months time. maybe the elation will die down. and maybe i will feel otherwise.
but as of now, i love my job.

i'm quite sure i'll love the paycheck even more. hehehe
